Abstract

Biomaterials present important functions with in organism, being associated with devices that have contact with the biological system and have surgical, therapeutic, diagnostic or vaccine applications, having natural or synthetic composition. Orthopedics and cardiology are the areas that most use biomaterials, which must have specifi properties in each of these segments. Among the main materials used in the manufacture and production of these devices, metals, polymers and ceramic materials stand out. Although the use of biomaterials is well consolidated, it is still expanding, arousing interest in several research centers in the search and development of new biomaterials.
